마지막 황제
베르나르도 베스톨루치의 마지막 황제가 개봉했을때 영화를 보지 않았다. 그당시 그 영화를 왜 안봤는지는 모르겠지만, 아마도 대작이라는 것에 대한 묘한 반감 때문이 아니었나 싶다. 남들이 다 본다고 나도 꼭 봐야 하는 법은 없다고 생각했던 모양.
며칠전 로그에서 류이치 사카모토의 음악이 나오는 영화를 우연히 보고 그 영화를 끝까지 봤다는 이야기를 했었다. 사실은 오늘 본 마지막 황제도 류이치 사카모토의 영화음악 때문에 처음에는 채널을 고정했더랬다. 류이치 사카모토의 음악이 뭔가 내 마음의 코드와 비슷한 면이 있나보다. 그의 음악만 나오면 최면이 걸리듯이 영화를 끝까지 보게 되니까 말이다.
영화는 들었던대로 청나라 마지막 황제 (이자 일본의 괴뢰국이었던 만주국의 황제)였던 푸이의 이야기를 다룬다. 별다른 생각없이 봤을때 영화는 이해할만 했다. 하지만 중국 황제가 영어로 이야기를 하고 일본인들도 다른 모든 중국인들도 영어로 이야기를 한다는 설정은 좀 안이했다. 아무리 미국애들이 자막읽기를 싫어한다지만 이건 남의 나라의 역사를 너무나도 우습게 왜곡하는게 아닌가. 모르는 사람이 영화를 보면 중국의 마지막 황제는 영어를 능숙하게 하는 그런 인텔리였노라고 말할수도 있을 것 같다.
우연히 괜찮은 영화를 건진 캐이불채널은 지난번과 같이 HOMECGV다. 정말 프로그램 편성이 된 것을 보면 꽤나 신경쓴 흔적이 느껴진다. 앞으로 좀더 관심을 기울여 봐야겠다.
